Champions LEAP Event

On March 15 & 16, 2013 some of our LEAP athletes participated in the Champions Gymnastics Club LEAP event.

We had 11 girls participate in the Physical Ability portion and all posted great scores.  For Dawn and Kaidence it was their first ever LEAP event and they handled themselves like veterans!  In the copper level Dawn received full points for her vertical jump and long jump and Kaidence received full points for her pike and bridge!  Samantha and Aliyah both got full points on their long jump!  Anya received full points for her L-sit, denisiuk and long jump while Christie got full points on her denisiuk and long jump.  Tristyn had a great day receiving full points on her denisiuk, vertical jump, all of her splits, body alignment, pike and bridge!  Megan and Katarinna both had a fantastic showing at the event and passed their Copper Physical Ability!

Ava tested in Bronze and received full points for denisiuk, vertical jump, front splits,body alignment and bridge.  Tyra tested for Silver Physical Ability and received full points on denisiuk, vertical jump, left splits front splits, body alignment, pike and bridge.


In the skills component the girls all had a good day and showed off some fantastic gymnastics.  Tess did great glide swings, and Tristyn's back handspring was amazing.  Elizabeth showed off a fantastic pull over on bars and Katarinna's handstand on beam was beautiful!  Katrina had a wonderful day and passed her Copper Skills and earned her Copper Pin!!!  Congratulations!

Mardi Gras

Salto Gymnastics hosted their 11th annual Mardi Gras Invitational Competition this past weekend, March 9-10, 2013.  The NEGC girls had lots of fun dressing up in their Mardi Gras outfits and were awarded the Team Spirit Bear for both sessions the club participated in!





The girls also posted some amazing individual results!
P2 Tyro:
Reagan - 3rd Vault, 1st Bars, 6th Floor, 6th All Around and she competed her back tuck on floor for the first time!
Trinity - 8th Vault, 5th Bars, 4th Beam, 5th Floor and 3rd All Around
Keyana - 5th Vault, 2nd Bars, 1st Beam, 4th Floor, 1st All Around!!!
P2 Open:
Hannah - 1st Vault, 1st Bars, 4th Beam, 1st Floor, 2nd All Around
P3 Tyro
Jenna - 2nd Vault, 2nd Bars, 2nd Beam, 2nd Floor, 2nd All Around
P3 Novice
Madison - 2nd Vault, 3rd Bars, 3rd Beam, 1st Floor, 3rd All Around and she competed her back handspring on beam for the first time!
Darian - 1st Vault, 4th Bars, 4th Beam, 2nd Floor, 4th All Around

Continued Success for the NEGC Compeitive Team!

The NEGC competitive team members have continued to improve and succeed this year at the competitions they have attended!

At the Gym Power meet at Capital City on January 25 - 27 Trinity placed 2nd on vault in the Provincial 2 Tyro division and Reagan stuck her beam routine!  In the P2 open category Hannah placed 1st on vault and 3rd on floor.  Jenna competed in the P3 Tyro category and did a beautiful flyaway in her bar routine.  Samantha competed in the P2 Novice division and placed 8th on floor.

The following weekend, February 1 - 3 the team was off to the Exelta Cup in Red Deer.  Here the girls came up against some very stiff competition and very large group sizes but they still posted some amazing results!  Kaelyn competed in the P1 Tyro division where she placed 7th on Beam.  Keyana, Reagan and Trinity competed in the P2 Tyro 2001 division where Keyana came 5th on Vault and Floor and 7th in the all around.  Trinity placed 3rd on vault and Reagan came in 8th on Bars.  Gia and Hannah competed in the P2 Open category and Hannah placed 4th on Vault, 8th on Bars, 7th on Beam and Floor and came 8th in the all-around.  Gia placed 2nd on Vault and Beam, 4th on bars and floor and won the silver medal in the all-around.  Madison and Darian competed in the P3 Novice category and both had fantastic vaults and bars routines!  Sara competed in the P3 Open category and placed 5th on Beam.  Victoria place 1st on Vault, 7th on Bars, 8th on Beam 5th on floor and 8th in the all around in the P4 Open category.

After a weekend off the team was off the Dynamyx Gymnastics to take part in the Sweetheart of a Meet on February  16.  In the P1 Tyro Division Sydney attended her first meet of the year and successfully competed her bar routine with her tuck on!  Kaelyn also competed in the P1 Tyro division and placed 4th on Bars, 2nd on Beam and 5th in the All-Around!  In P2 Tyro Reagan won her first medal by placing 2nd on Bars and also came 5th on Vault; Trinity was competing in the same division and won the Gold medal on Vault as well as placing 6th on Bars, 7th on Floor and 5th in the All-Around.  In the P2 Open Division Hannah placed 1st on Vault, 5th on Bars and Beam, 6th on Floor and 5th in the All-Around.  Gia placed 2nd on Vault, 3rd on Bars, 2nd on Beam, 3rd on Floor and won the Gold medal in the All-Around!  Jenna competed P3 Tyro and came 3rd on Vault, 2nd on Bars, 3rd on Beam 4th on Floor and 4th in the All-Around.  Madison and Darian competed in P3 Novice and Madison was 3rd on Vault, 2nd on Bars, 6th on Beam, 4th on Floor and 5th in the All Around.  Darian placed 4th on Vault, 7th on Bars and Beam, 4th on Floor and 7th in the All Around.  In the P3 Open division Sara placed 3rd on Vault, 5th on Bars and Beam, 4th on Floor and 5th All around.
The P2 athletes also combined their scores to come away with the 2nd Place P2 Team trophy!

We are very proud of the accomplishments and improvements of all of our athletes and can't wait to see what they do next!!!!!

Winter Wonderland LEAP Event

On January 19 and 20, 2013 eleven members of the NEGC pre-competitive program took part in the Winter Wonderland LEAP event at Capital City Gymnastics Club.  This was the first LEAP event of the year for all of the girls and for 3 girls it was their first LEAP event ever!

All eleven of the girls participated in the physical ability portion of the event where they showed how fast they could climb the rope, how far they could jump and how far down they could get in their splits among other things.  Katrina, Tess, Elizabeth, Tristyn, Aliyah, Sofia and Samantha all tested in the copper level and they all posted  personal best scores.  Katrina, Tess and Elizabeth all scored over 70 points and passed the physical ability component!

Ava tested in the Bronze level and also put up a personal best!  In the Silver level Danielle and Tyra also had a great day and finished the event with their best score in Silver!

On Sunday Katrina, Tess, Elizabeth and Tristyn were back to take part in the Skills portion of the event.  As it was the first event of the season there were a few nerves to work through but they still put forth an amazing effort and represented the gym and themselves really well!

 Great job ladies - we can't wait to see what you do next time!

Winter Flip Competition

On January 12, 2013 four athletes from the NEGC competitive team took part in the St. Albert Gymnastics Club Winter Flip Competition.  This was the first competition of the year for these girls and was Hannah's first competition ever!

In the P2 Tyro (2001)division Reagan won her first medal ever with the silver medal on bars and placed 4th on Vault and Floor and placed 6th in the All Around.

In the P2 Novice division Samantha earned her first ever Gold medal by winning Vault and also earned the bronze medal on bars.  She also placed 5th on floor and earned the Bronze medal in the All Around!

Hannah and Gia competed in the P2 Open division and both had great days!  Hannah earned her first 2 medals with Bronze medals on Vault and floor.  She also placed 7th on Bars and 8th on beam which helped her to a 4th place finish in the all around.  Gia won the Gold medal on beam and also added silver medals on vault and floor on her way to the silver medal in the All Around.



What a great start to the year!

Cancun Classic Competition

On January 1, 2013 9 athletes and 2 coaches from the NEGC competitive team traveled to Cancun, Mexico to take part in the 2013 Cancun Classic Gymnastics Competition.  The team traveled with 27 supporters made up of parents, siblings and grandparents. 




 On Friday January 4 the girls took part in a training session where they had the opportunity to see the venue and try out the equipment prior to the competition.  After the training session they had the opportunity to watch an NCAA college gymnastics meet between Ohio State University, Brigham Young University and Michigan State University.  This was a great experience for the girls and it was especially cool to watch a fellow Albertan Stephanie McGregor from Calgary compete for OSU!

Saturday was competition day and all the girls were nervous but also very excited!  It was the first meet of the year for all of our girls and for Kaelyn it was her first meet ever!  Kaelyn competed level 4 and won her first medal by earning a Bronze medal on Bars!

Keyana competed in level 5 and won a Bronze medal on vault and finnished 4th All Around!

Trinity competed in level 6 and competed her flyaway for the very first time!

Jenna competed in Level seven and did a great job competing many new skills.  She competed her flyaway on bars, back layout and front handspring front tuck on floor as well as back handspring on beam!

Darian also competed Level 7 and she won the silver medal on Vault in the Junior C Division as well as placing 6th in the all around.  Darian also competed many new skills such as a flyaway on bars, back layout on floor and back handspring on beam!

Madison and Sara also competed level 7 and placed 4th and 5th respectively on Vault in the Junior C age division.  Madison competed her flyaway on bars, back layout on floor and back walkover back handspring series on beam for the first time!  Sara rocked her back layout on floor and competed her cartwheel to round off series for the first time on bars.

Bailey competed level 7 as well and was in the Junior B division.  She competed her back layout on floor and her back handspring on beam for the very first time - she even stuck the back handspring!

Victoria competed Level 8 and competed her Tsukahara vault for the very first time and won the silver medal on vault.  She also won the silver medal on bars and competed her giant for the first time.  She had good showings on floor and beam as well and won the bronze medal in the all around!

We are so very proud of all of our girls and the determination and class they demonstrated at the competition!  We could not ask for a better bunch of girls - they represented NEGC and Canada very well!


Once the competition was over the girls spent Sunday at Dophinaris and Wet and Wild where they spent the day swimming with the dolphins and sliding on the water slides!  It was a great way to celebrate their hard work and accomplishments and to relax and have some fun!  The families also had a great time spending time together and getting to know one another better.  It showed me once again that we truly do have the best gymnastics family at NEGC!
